There is so much good poetry in Christmas carols and in the old hymns. I’m listening to Amy Shreve and Amy Grant a lot these days.
There is a collection of poetry in the Public Domain at Utmost Christian Writers. It’s interesting to read the lyrics from songs that I know best by their first verses.
The is the third verse of Silent Night:
Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love’s pure light;
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
by Joseph Mohr
Translation by John Freeman Young
